I wanted to do a shitpost about Indian military procurement or Indian military in gernal for a week now, for the following reasonss
too many repeated Taiwan post, it is just not even fun anymore.
there are few "new" news about those Indian military procurements, I just thought it would be a good time
finally, I can't believe Indians really think they can use Indian Rupee to pay international arm dealer. FFS, even Russians who are under the worst sanctions ever, are not even taking Rupees as payment, why the fuck would LM or Boeing take it?
Indian military procurements are those kind train crash that you can't look away, or in Indian case, it would be aircraft crash you can't look away. The reason at the end of days can be conclued to one simple sentence: "too cheap to get what they actully want and too incompetent to build what actully need."
India simply just does't have enough human resource for their defence industry (or any industry tbh). By 2015, China's AVIC had employees of 446,613. HAL by 2020, had 28,345 employees, it is not even 10% of AVIC. And HAL supposed to be in charge of or take apart in the development of twin engine deck based fighter, Tejas Mk1A, Tejas MK2 and AMCA (their fifth gen). I mean how, by now they can only deliver Tejas with their team and not even so call Tejas MK1A. DRDO which is supposed to be "engaged in developing defence technologies covering various fields, like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, land combat engineering, life sciences, materials, missiles, and naval systems", only has 5000 scientists. Indians are just not putting enough resouce to build their defense industry.
Indian goverment is already spending too much money on defence, yes, too much. Indian denfence buget took 15.5 % of its goverment spending. By comparsion, the US spent arond 10% its Federal spending, China around 5%(even you double this, you can't get 15%), Brazil around 7.3%., France around 8.4%. Indian goverment is spending far more than the average by % wise. In another word, Indian goverment can hardly push more spending even in Rupee. That's why they just pushed that half ass baked recirment scheme, where they will retire 75% of soilders who have served for 4 years, even if they were in technology inensece solts. Those who retire after 4 years of service will not be eligible for pension, but will only receive less than $15,000. Indian goverment is just trying to save every rupee, even it may hurt them in the long term and that's why they are not spending on R&D.
Indian goverment is trying to save every dollar they can, Indian has huge foregin reserve but very large propation of the reserve is buildt by debt, they don't acutlly own them. In 2022 alone, they will have to pay $256 billion foregin debt. And India has trade defdilt with all most every single country you can think of. For the financial year 2021–22, according to wiki, it lost $192.0 billion in trading with its biggest trading parterners and its foregin reserve is only $642.453 billion. This years trade deficit will only be higher due to high oil priece and devaluation of rupee aginst USD. And they can't spend whatever they have left, simply because they need to use the leftover to stop inflation from rising too fast and stabilize the market. India's wholesale price inflation runs at 30-year high, I don't see how Indian gov would try to spend more of its foregin reserve. That's why they keep cutting the price offer for the 114 jets, it was $30 billion in 2014 now it is $18 billion (source) and they want to pay the OEMs with rupee for the 60 jets. In what world, this would work? So the $30 billion was too little for OEMs, now they will offer $20 billion or $18 billion. What the hell they are thinking? Another example is the P75I submarine progam, they made one policy called "strategic partnership", it basic let foreign defence contractors work with local Indian partner to produce weapons. But, Indian gov wants a high indigenous content percentage and almost unlimited liability on the foreign technology partner and ToT. Worst of all, they only want to pay around $5.4 billion dollars for 6 submaries. To put it into context, the Kearon submarine costed more than $900 million per unit, 6 of them without weapon, local production and ToT, it is already overbugeted. So for their P75I project, every defence contractor wants to pull out or has pulled out, expected the Korean one. And according to the rule, if there is only one left to bid, they have to restarted the process, I mean what a waste of time. Indians know the strategic partnership model is stupid but no one is doing anything about it.
There is no accountability in the Indian gov, Indian military and Indian reasrech agencies. They don't learn shit from the mistakes they made. Just as I have said, strategic partnership model is a stupid policy but everyone inside Indian gov and Indian military is runing with it as if there will be a result. They have tried with $30 billion but now they are offering even lower price with even worse terms. And you don't see anyone within the system stop and ask, why we are making the mistakes as last time or ask for accountability for the dealy and failure. They even rewarded that guy who YOLOed into Pak air space with only Mig 21 when he got no order to do so. I meant are you serious? For all the dealy and failure, I never heard any miliary official resigned or show any shame. The US navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer would resign if the new Carrier can't be fixed in time. Have you heard anyone from Indian gov, Indian military made such commitments on any of their programs?
Americans can stop asking why Indians are not buying F-35, they simply can't afford it and Indians can stop using sanction risk as the excuse because F-16, F-18, and F-15 are all in the 114 jets MRFA progam. Finally, Malaysia is not planing to pay fighter jet with palm oil, at least I can't find any reliable news source endorse this shit and I only saw this from Indian sub reddit. Asked how he plans to analyses, "every match is a lesson for us and you tend to learn something. We have to reflect why we aren't able to bat well in the third innings of a Test match and why we aren't able to take 10 wickets in the fourth innings," he said on a serious note. India play their last six games of the current World Test Championship cycle in the sub-continent and Dravid plans to sit with Chetan Sharma to analyze the shortcomings. "Now the next six Test matches are in sub-continent (2 in Bangladesh and 4 in India), and our focus will be on those remaining games but obviously, coaches and selectors would sit down and analyze this defeat as that review happens after every game" he said. The current team has been losing steam during the third and fourth innings of a match and it could be because of a variety of factors, including bowlers' fitness over a passage of time. "It is something that we need to look at and work on. He then listed variety of factors - may be we need to maintain that intensity and may be we need to maintain that level of fitness, maintain that level of performance right through a Test match." The batting is a cause of concern, he said time and again. "Also in all these Test matches, the batting has also not been up to the scratch in the third innings as well. So both in SA and here, we have started well but haven't been able to finish well. Certainly, we need to get better at that and improve," he added. The conditions didn't warrant a second spinner. Ravichandran Ashwin's absence has been debated but Dravid defended the team's strategy. "It's not easy to leave someone like Ash out in a Test match but when we looked at the wicket on first day, it had a pretty even covering of grass, and we felt that there was enough in it for the fast bowlers," Dravid explained the team's position. "Also, if you see, wicket hasn't spun much either for Jack Leach or Ravi Jadeja, who bowled through the match. Weather also played a part as for first three days, there wasn't long phases of sunshine. Probably, it didn't spin as much as we expected it to." Dravid said that everything looks different in hindsight but reality is a bit different. "It actually would have looked nice to have second spinner but it didn't turn enough to justify inclusion," he added. Don't know about 'BazBall' but England have been exceptional. Dravid smiled when asked about 'Bazball', the popular lingo about Brendon McCullum's positive influence on England's Test batting over the past month. "I don't know what it is.
